Merrimack Mill Village Duplex / Houses for Rent
Merrimack, like Fivepoints and Twickenham are historical districts in Huntsville Alabama. Because of the fact that Merrimack homes are far less expensive than those of other historic areas in Huntsville, families are moving into Merrimack Village, also known as Huntsville Park. The area homes are Victorian-era homes and shotgun houses, gorgeous flowers and foliage in yards, large areas to play outdoors and amenities like arts center (Historic Merrimack Hall) and soccer field just a walk away.
Merrimack Mill was the first textile mill in Huntsville and perhaps the largest mill in the Southeastern United States. When Merrimack Mill Company opened its textile mill on July 9, 1900 it employed 750 workers. A second mill was constructed in 1903, employing over 1,100 workers.
After nearly 100 years of production, it was decided in 1989 that the Merrimack Mill Company would close its plant and the mills were distroyed in 1992. Today, 297 mill village houses and Merrimack Hall are all that remain of this important piece of Huntsville’s history.
Now Merrimack Mill Village, regarded among the city's key economic drivers, is on the National Register of Historic Places.
